Repetition Recognition

What influences are there on the mind to recognize repetition?

Pattern recognition is a fundamental element of the function of the mind, since if the brain couldn’t recognize what the senses have perceived in the past, there would be no memory of anything. Without memory or recognition, there would be no learning or ability to function beyond very basic instinctual reactions. I considered more about recognition and its relevance to subconscious, and conscious mind functions, in a post from about 9 months ago; Conscious Recognition. Regarding recognition, what influences would there be on its function, relative to either mind function?

When it comes to recognizing a pattern that the senses perceive, which is already stored in memory, the subconscious mind is likely quicker, but less accurate than conscious analysis, (just as it is for determining a reaction to a situation). The subconscious can quickly and easily recognize a shape in order to trigger a quick reaction, but just as the reaction is not entirely accurate for an intention, also the recognition is not entirely accurate.

For eg, a dog's subconscious mind might mistakenly recognize a plastic bag blowing in the wind across a field, to be a rabbit running, and cause the dog to chase. Subconscious reaction will often recognize anything perceived as the closest resembling factor which it has saved in memory, and which has significant positive or negative reinforcement. A plastic bag that is white, similar in size, and moving at a similar speed to a rabbit, would be recognized as a rabbit, if the dog’s memories of a rabbit are the closest resembling factor with positive reinforcement.

Using conscious thought on the other hand, would be slower, but can allow more accurate recognition. If a person saw the same bag blowing across the field, perhaps their initial subconscious mind would recognize it as a rabbit, just like the dog, but once the person's mind accesses more detail of the interaction of factors within the scenario, they could more accurately recognize it as a plastic bag. By consciously accessing details of memories of the specific motion rabbits have while running, compared to the slightly differing motion of the bag flowing, or details of memory of a rabbits ears or legs, compared to the appearance of the bag, the person could determine a more accurate recognition.

It seems the subconscious is the 1st to recognize, before the potential for conscious thought to analyse and attempt a more accurate recognition. I further explained how the subconscious seems to be the initial thought process in general, in a post from about 8 months ago; Sub Ctrl Alt Conscious

Perhaps a subconscious mind regularly recognizes patterns inaccurately, without the additional process of detail analysis. After repetition, the subconscious mind would adjust its recognition of more objects or factors perceived by the senses, to become more accurate, based on reinforcement. This repetition would generally take a lot more occurrences than conscious thought.

Recognition of patterns through sensory perception seems to be heavily influenced by the subconscious mind. Since the subconscious is faster, it is likely the 1st to recognize a pattern. Being quicker, it is also less accurate and more likely to recognize an incorrect pattern, which the conscious mind could potentially recognize more accurately through memory access of details. Perhaps the attention of the mind could be another significant aspect influencing accuracy, and the focus for; Pattern Recognition.
